“Chicot the Jester”, also known by the title “La Dame de Monsoreau” is a romance, set in the court of King Henri III. Written by Alexandre Dumas, a French writer of the 19th century, which hardly needs to be introduced, the novel was published in 1846.
The protagonist, Bussy d'Amboise falls in love with a lady, who has a very jealous husband. Historical events described so brilliantly and convincingly, serve as a background for a complicated love intrigue. The author opposes generosity, sincerit
y and faithfulness of the gallant Count de Bussy and his beloved Diana to depravity and hypocrisy of the court.
“La Dame de Monsoreau” became the second novel of a trilogy, which includes “La Reine Margot” (1845) and “The Forty-Five Guardsmen” (1847).
