A first-hand experiences of the author, a British travel writer, educator and social activist Anna Leonowens, at the Court of Siam: she has lived in the Court of King Rama IV (King Mongkut) between 1862 and 1868. Published in 1872, this is the second book Leonowens wrote after the reterning, the first being “The King and I”. Memoirs about this stay offer an account of Siamese court life, including the secrets of an Oriental Harem.
